Dr. Bob Proctor the Success Guru – How to Wire your Brain for Success

Article Overview 🔎

Who was Dr. Bob Proctor? 🧠

Dr. Bob Proctor (July 5, 1934 – February 3, 2022) was an expert in wiring the brain for success and achieving goals. He studied both himself and others to see what made them so successful. His findings include the influence of the subconscious mind on our successes and how to stop unhelpful paradigms to make way for new paradigms.

He was a Canadian self-help author and lecturer, best known for his New York Times best-selling book You Were Born Rich (also in the videos below) published in 1984 and being a contributor to the film ‘The Secret‘ released in 2006. His teachings maintained the idea that a positive self-image is critical for obtaining success, frequently referencing the pseudoscientific belief of the Law of Attraction and that you set your limits on your potential by the way you think.

He spoke of having a poor self-image and little ambition as a child, dropping out from Danforth Tech after a bandsaw-inflicted thumb injury left him with no plans for the future. However, in the early 1960s, Ray Stanford shared the book Think and Grow Rich with him. Soon afterward, he claimed his life started to change as the book shifted his focus in life. He said he started a company offering cleaning services as his first enterprise, a venture, he claimed, netted him over $100,000 in his starting year despite having neither formal education nor business experience. He read ‘Think and Grow Rich’ countless times for the rest of his life including small excerpts daily and was mentored by the famous Earl Nightingale.

Dr. Bob Proctor was a big advocator of the fact that self image is a key source from which a person’s reality is created, including their quality of life, their achievements, their relationships, their lifestyle. He extensively studied the subconscious mind and shifting paradigms for a more positive self image. This included his research on Psycho‑Cybernetics by Dr. Maxwell Maltz, a plastic surgeon that noticed that when he removed a facial scar, a nose job or created clear physical change/improvement, it didn’t always make the person feel better or more confident about themselves. This was because they still embodied the negative self image. As such, he concluded that there must be two images that we have, an exterior image and we also have an inner self-image. “You act and feel not according to what things are really like, but according to the image your mind holds of them.” Change your self-image, and you change your life.

Dr. Bob Proctor and Sandy Gallagher founded the Proctor Gallagher Institute (PGI) in 2009. This is a personal development and coaching organization, focused on mindset transformation, wealth building, and personal success, primarily using principles from Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich and the Law of Attraction.

Dr. Bob Proctor Videos 🎥

Here are some Dr. Bob Proctor’s videos, including his audiobook You Were Born Rich.

Video 1 – Do You Know Who You Are? (Bob Proctor)

This Dr. Bob Proctor interview discusses how success doesn’t come from finding answers outside yourself, it comes from understanding and changing yourself, especially how you think.

1. Look Within, Not Outside

  • Most people attend seminars searching for external answers.
  • Proctor argues the real solution is internal; your results come from you (linking to the Law of Correspondence in the Hermetic Principles of the Universe; “As within, so without”).
  • To change your life, you must study and understand yourself.

2. Who You Really Are

  • You are not your name or your body; you have those.
  • Humans exist on three levels; spiritual, intellectual (mind), and physical (body).
  • Most people are stuck reacting to the physical world instead of consciously creating their lives.

3. Why Most People Don’t Succeed

  1. Conditioning (internal) – From childhood, we absorb beliefs from our environment. These often limit what we think is possible.
  2. Environment (external) – We imitate the people around us, even if they’re unsuccessful. 95% of people live average or unfulfilled lives, yet we follow them.

4. What Success Really Means

  • Success is progress toward a meaningful goal, not just money.
  • Anyone working toward a clear goal is already successful.

5. The Power of Thought

  • Thoughts are non-physical but shape physical reality.
  • You can accept or reject thoughts, choose positive over negative thinking.
  • “We become what we think about” (linking to the Law of Attraction).

6. Goals and Mental Programming

  • Be specific about what you want.
  • Write your goal down and review it daily.
  • Replace thoughts of “why I can’t” with “how I can.”
  • The mind will begin generating solutions.

7. Self-Image Matters

  • Everyone has an internal self-image that controls behavior.
  • If you see yourself as incapable, you act that way.
  • To improve:
    • Relax and visualize your ideal self.
    • Write it in present tense; “I am…” (affirmations like this are powerful as words are spells, hence the term “spellings”).
    • Repetition builds belief and changes behavior.

8. Attitude and Control

  • Thoughts, feelings, and in turn, actions create attitude.
  • You can’t think positive and negative at the same time.
  • You must train your mind to focus on the positive.
  • You cannot change others’ attitudes, only your own.

9. Be Different (Don’t Just Fit In)

  • Most people conform out of fear.
  • Successful individuals think independently and act differently.
  • Innovation and success come from imagination (“fantasy”) turned into reality.

10. Lifelong Learning

  • Real education means developing your mind, not just memorizing information.
  • Study successful people and proven ideas.
  • Re-reading powerful material increases self-awareness over time.

11. Summary

You control your thoughts, thoughts shape feelings, feelings drive actions, actions create results. Change your thinking, self-image, and goals, and your life will follow.

Video 2, 3, & 4 – Dr. Bob Proctor on the Law of Attraction

All three of these videos point to one central idea; your external results are a reflection of your internal state. Not your effort alone, not your circumstances, but your thinking patterns, beliefs, and identity (your “paradigm”).

1. Your Mindset Creates Your Reality

  • What you consistently think about shapes your life, but it’s deeper than surface thoughts:
    • It’s your subconscious programming.
    • Your identity.
    • Your habitual emotional state.
  • If those don’t change, results won’t either.

2. Most People Are Stuck in Invisible Patterns

  • You’re running automatic behaviors.
  • These patterns:
    • Control decisions.
    • Limit income.
    • Keep you in the same cycles.
  • That’s why:
    • People earn the same range of money.
    • Repeat the same mistakes.
    • Struggle to “break through”’

3. The Real Shift Is Internal (Not External)

  • Trying to change results directly doesn’t work long-term.
  • Instead, you must:
    • Change how you think.
    • Change what you believe is possible.
    • Change how you see yourself.
  • When that shifts:
    • Behavior changes naturally.
    • Opportunities appear.
    • Results follow.

4. Focus Determines Direction

  • If you focus on lack, you get more lack.
  • If you focus on possibility, you move toward it.
  • The mind acts like a filter; it notices and attracts what matches your dominant thinking.

5. “Vibration” Is Your State of Being

  • You attract outcomes that match:
    • Your beliefs.
    • Your expectations.
    • Your emotional baseline.
  • So:
    • Thinking differently once makes no change.
    • Becoming different consistently creates transformation.

6. Clarity & Decision Unlock Progress

  • Everything starts with:
    • Knowing what you actually want.
    • Deciding you’re going there (even without knowing how).
  • The “how” comes after the decision, not before.

7. Action Still Matters (But It Must Align)

  • This isn’t passive thinking.
  • Aligned action and a new mindset create real change.
  • Examples include:
    • Taking opportunities.
    • Changing habits.
    • Showing up differently.
    • Creating leverage (not just working harder).

8. Growth Is Greater Than Achievement

  • Goals are not just to get things, they are to become someone new:
    • Bigger thinking.
    • Better habits.
    • Stronger identity.
  • The external reward is secondary.

9. Money Is a Byproduct

  • Money shows up when:
    • You provide value.
    • You solve meaningful problems.
    • You become hard to replace.
  • It’s not the goal, it’s the result of alignment and contribution (the Law of Compensation).

10. The Practical Formula

  1. Decide what you truly want.
  2. Start thinking from that reality.
  3. Build belief (emotion and repetition).
  4. Change daily habits to match it.
  5. Take action—even without full clarity.
  6. Stay consistent long enough for results to catch up.

11. Summary

Change your inner programming, align your actions with a clear vision, and your external life will eventually match it.

Videos 5-8 – Dr. Bob Proctor or Paradigms & Self-Image

Across all four videos, Bob Proctor’s core message is that your life results are not determined primarily by intelligence, education, or effort, but by your subconscious programming (your “paradigm” or self-image) and that lasting change only happens when you change that internal program.

He argues that every person operates from a deeply ingrained self-image stored in the subconscious mind, formed through childhood conditioning, repetition, environment, and emotional experiences. This self-image functions like a cybernetic control system (similar to a thermostat or autopilot); it automatically regulates your behavior so you consistently return to a “set point” for things like income, health, relationships, and success. Even if you temporarily improve or decline, you tend to drift back to what your self-image believes is normal.

Because of this, knowledge alone is not enough. People often know what to do but fail to do it consistently because their subconscious programming overrides conscious intention. This is why many people repeat the same financial and life outcomes year after year despite learning more or trying harder.

Proctor’s central solution is to change the paradigm/self-image. He emphasizes that transformation begins by consciously deciding what you want, then deliberately building a new mental identity (“winner’s image”) through visualization, emotional engagement, and most importantly constant repetition of new ideas over time. Repetition is essential because the subconscious learns through repeated impressions, not single insights.

He also stresses that people must take responsibility for their results by honestly evaluating their current life situation, rather than rationalizing or self-deceiving. From there, change requires discipline, focus, and often mentorship or structured environments that reinforce new thinking.

Across all four talks, he repeatedly highlights three desires common to most people:

  • Financial freedom (no constant money stress).
  • Meaningful, enjoyable work.
  • Positive, supportive relationships.

His overarching claim is that once the internal self-image changes, external results naturally follow. In his view, you cannot permanently change your life by changing actions alone, you must first change the identity that produces those actions.

Videos 9, 10, & 11 – Dr. Bob Proctor: The 11 Forgotten Laws

In these videos, Dr. Bob Proctor explains that the popular Law of Attraction (from ‘The Secret‘) is only one piece of how reality and manifestation are believed to work. He says there are 11 additional “universal laws” that, when understood together, help people align with abundance, success, and personal transformation.

He presents these laws as principles that govern thought, energy (vibration), behavior, and outcomes. The “11 Forgotten Laws” are listed below.

  1. Law of Thinking – Your dominant thoughts shape your life experience.
  2. Law of Supply – Abundance is infinite; lack is an illusion.
  3. Law of Attraction – Like attracts like; your thoughts and feelings draw matching experiences.
  4. Law of Receiving – You must be open and willing to accept what you want.
  5. Law of Increase – Gratitude, appreciation, and positive focus expand what you have.
  6. Law of Compensation – You are rewarded in proportion to the value you provide.
  7. Law of Non-Resistance – What you resist tends to persist; acceptance allows flow and change.
  8. Law of Forgiveness – Letting go of resentment frees mental and emotional energy.
  9. Law of Sacrifice – You may need to release something lesser to gain something greater.
  10. Law of Obedience – Results come from aligning with “universal principles” consistently.
  11. Law of Success – Success is seen as the natural outcome of aligning with all the above laws.

A law that is not included in the forgotten laws (which Dr. Bob Proctor says is the most primary law) is the Law of Vibration (one of the Hermetic Principles of the Universe). Everything in life is energy vibrating at different levels, and your emotional state (“vibration”) determines what you experience and attract. He argues that the Law of Vibration is the main universal law, and the Law of Attraction works through it.

When you feel positive, grateful, or peaceful, you are in a higher vibration and tend to attract better experiences. When you feel fear, stress, or negativity, you are in a lower vibration and tend to attract more of the same.

He also suggests you can change your life by consciously shifting your mood and attention, aligning with people and environments that feel good, and practicing empathy, gratitude, and positive focus.

Your life is shaped by your thoughts, emotional vibration, and alignment with universal principles. By consciously managing your thinking, beliefs, and emotional state, you can influence your outcomes.

Videos 12 & 13 – Success Habits Make Decisions & Take Action!

In these two videos, Dr. Bob Proctor discusses how success in life comes from making clear decisions, thinking at a higher level of awareness, and acting immediately instead of waiting for perfect conditions.

Most people stay stuck because they:

  • Avoid strong decisions.
  • Wait until they “feel ready”.
  • Over-plan instead of acting.
  • Stay at the level of current thinking instead of expanding it.

1. The Power of Decision

  • A real decision is firm, clear, and committed (not half-committed or temporary).
  • Most people don’t make true decisions, they delay or stay uncertain.
  • Indecision is the main reason people don’t achieve their goals.
  • Once you truly decide something, circumstances start changing to support it.
  • You don’t need money or perfect conditions first, you need the decision first, then the path appears.
  • He connects this to:
    • Kennedy’s moon speech (“We choose to go to the moon”).
    • Napoleon Hill’s idea that leaders decide quickly and firmly.
    • Higher faculties like imagination, intuition, and will.

2. Frequency/Mindset Concept

  • People think on different “frequencies” (levels of awareness).
  • Your current thinking produces your current results.
  • To get new results, you must shift your thinking state.
  • You can do this by:
    • Imagining your future self.
    • Acting like the person you want to become.
    • Holding a clear mental picture of your goal.

3. Bold Decisions & Commitment (Evan Carmichael Highlights This)

  1. Make bold moves – Best decisions are made when you feel confident or inspired. Don’t let doubt after the fact cancel the decision.
  2. Schedule it – If it’s important, it must exist in your calendar. If it’s not scheduled, it won’t happen.
  3. Commit publicly – Tell other people so you are accountable. You are more likely to follow through for others than for yourself.

4. 5% Planning, 95% Action Rule

  • Practical rule – Spend ~5% planning and ~95% doing.
  • Over-planning leads to hesitation, loss of momentum, and self-doubt.
  • Action leads to clarity, confidence, and progress.

5. “Start Before You’re Ready”

  • Waiting until you feel ready guarantees delay.
  • Action creates momentum, confidence, and clarity.
  • Fear is overcome by doing, not thinking.

6. Summary

Life changes when you make firm decisions, commit fully, and take fast imperfect action instead of waiting for perfect conditions or overthinking.

Video 13 – You Were Born Rich Full Audiobook

Here is Dr. Bob Proctor’s You Were Born Rich audiobook. It shares the teachings from the other videos, as well as how we are all born rich. This is summarized below.

  1. Paradigms control your life
  2. Your income is a reflection of your self-image
  3. The Law of Vibration/Attraction
  4. Success is an inside job
  5. The “Born Rich” concept
  6. Breaking old programming
  7. Desire, belief, and action create

The “Born Rich” concept explained:

  • You were born with infinite potential.
  • You already have the capacity to create wealth and success.
  • Most people never learn how to access it because of conditioning.

Everyone is “born rich” in potential, creativity, and possibility. Financial struggle is not caused by lack of opportunity, but by internal programming (beliefs, habits, paradigms). If you change your thinking, you can change your income and life outcomes. Wealth and success are not something you acquire externally, but something you unlock internally by changing your beliefs, identity, and mental programming.

Dr. Bob Proctor’s Magnet to Money Manifestation Affirmations Song 💰

Here are some affirmations he likes to use to alter the subconscious mind and create new paradigms. This includes, “I’m so happy and grateful now that money comes to me in increasing quantities through multiple sources on a continuous basis” and his favorite money manifestation song ‘I am a magnet to money’ (“I am a magnet to money, money money loves me!”).

The basis of the Law of Attraction is primarily focusing on getting your vibe/vibration right (as Neville Goddard and Dr. Bob Proctor taught; the Law of Vibration is the primary to manifesting and a Hermetic Principle of the Universe). Then, circumstances and actions to take will appear/become more clear/be attracted to you. In turn, external reality aligns with the internal thoughts and feelings that emit frequencies/vibrations. When people raise their vibration on an individual level, it positively affects everything/everyone around them. When multiple people do, it affects reality as a whole (again, as humans are “godly” creators) and it only takes a few to change the whole (as shared by Gregg Braden, linking to the Hundredth Monkey effect).
